This Year's Art
Renowned artist Robert Davidson has graciously created and donated a painting in recognition of the Vancouver Aquarium’s 50 Amazing Years. The original painting named Chief of the Underworld is being sold at Salmonchanted Evening, the signature fundraising event at the Aquarium, Friday, September 29th, 2006. All proceeds from the painting will be donated to the Vancouver Aquarium.
The estimated value of this exceptional painting is $45,000. Individuals or corporations may take part in advanced bidding by contacting the Aquarium before 2p.m. September 28, 2006 or attend the live auction at Salmonchanted Evening. Tickets for the event are $225 per person and are available by calling Maureen Verkaar at 604-659-3509.

ROBERT DAVIDSON
Mr. Davidson is one of Canada’s most respected and important contemporary artists. A Northwest Coast native of Haida descent. Mr. Davidson is a master carver of totem poles and masks and works in a variety of other media as a printmaker, painter and jeweller. He is also a leading figure in the renaissance of Haida art and culture. Robert Davidson is best known as an impeccable craftsman whose creative and personal interpretation of traditional Haida form is unparalleled.
For more than 30 years, Robert Davidson has worked as an artist and has produced an internationally acclaimed body of work. His work is found in a number of important private and public collections including the national Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec and the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles. Mr. Davidson is currently working on “The Abstract Edge” opening at the National Gallery in Ottawa in 2007. Mr. Davidson has also received many honours for his accomplishments including the National Aboriginal Achievement Award for his contribution to First nations art and culture.
